- Acc no. 54805 :: A Haveli of royalty stands proudly after years of perseverance in Jodhpur
Jodhpur was an independent state under the British Empire, ruled by the dynasty of Rathores. Most of the rulers, besides possessing administrative abilities, were sportsmen & great sports lovers. The royal game during the period was Horse Polo. It was the game which very few affluent could play, hence most of the players were of royal lineage with strong feudal background. It was sometime during that period that the erstwhile Ruler of Jodhpur, delighted at the performance of the Team, awarded huge colonies to the players around the RED SAND POLO playing ground. During that period, seven identical Havelies(also known as 'garhs') were built with mixed Europeon-Rajput-Mugal Style of Architecture of that era.
This was one of them and the only Haveli of that period to withstand the onslaught of generations, economy & time. Every room in the Haveli has a unique history. The architecture of the Haveli was founded on the basis of the need of that period. This is a strange building, where the rooms on the ground floor have a comparitively low ceiling of 12 feet but the rooms on the first floor are 20 feet high. Word has it that these rooms were designed for young horse trotting princes who would ride and leave the horses just outside the main building. Then they would go to their royal suites on the first floor to take rest and get pampered. This Haveli occupies three floors of a magnificent building that was once a royal retreat.

A long winding driveway flanked on either side by bamboo trees and other plants leads to the main building which maintains the look of a 1920's building. The benches outside, amidst the flowers and trees are the best spot to gaze dreamily at the river at a distance.
If you're a foodie and like Parsi food, you're in for a treat! The menu is personally decided and the cooking overseen by the Parsi couple, whose children jointly look after the management of the place. A fixed menu system is followed at this accommodation and food is served at fixed timings. Guests are requested to make their preference for vegetarian or non-vegetarian food in advance. Guests particularly love the tranquility, scenic view and home-like stay here.
