Just about 2 km from Hampi, the small village of Anegundi has some lovely heritage houses that have been restored.This is a project supported by UNESCO.
Recently restored this is the ancestral house of the accountants of the Anegundi Kingdom. The owners descendants from the family of accountants lived here till the mid-nineties. The building which is built in the traditional style dating back to the 1500's had been lying vacant for a decade or so before it was restored. Now, it serves as a neat and clean guesthouse to visitors wanting to visit Hampi.
There are no air-conditioners and it can get pretty hot in the summers but the authentic ambiance makes it all worthwhile when visiting the historic city of Hampi. Guests can hire a bicycle, a motorbike or a car for the day for local travel. Guests travelling by their own vehicle will have to pay Rs. 10 to the panchayat per vehicle per day.

The food served at this guesthouse is cooked by a group of women from the community and is brought to the guesthouse in carriers. Basically serving south-Indian fare both vegetarian and non-vegetarian home-made hygienic food is available. Pasta, noodles, momos or sandwiches can be ordered on request. Fruit salad, muesli with curd and other cereal is also available. There is a stove for tea and coffee which guests are free to use. Milk, tea, coffee and sugar is provided free of cost. A fridge is provided for cold water and ice.
Breakfast - South Indian or Eggs and toast. Breakfast is complimentary and served between 8.30 to 10 am.
Lunch - South Indian or Continental. 1 pm to 2 pm - Approximately Rs. 75 to Rs. 150 per person
Dinner - South Indian or Continental. 7 pm to 10 pm - Approximately Rs. 75 to Rs. 150 per person
Activities
Folk dances, contemporary dances, open plays about Indian history, stories of Hanuman, and music evenings can be organised on prior notice at a charge.
Location
Anegundi is across the Tungabhadra river from Hampi. During the monsoons when the river overflows one cannot cross the river but will have to go by road from Hampi to Anegundi which is about a 60 km drive.
